The Hoya multiflora variegata 'Albo' is a special eye-catcher within the range of wax plants. This rare variety combines the graceful appearance of the classic Hoya multiflora with striking white-furred leaves, giving it an extra elegant look. Thanks to its compact growth form and spectacular flowering, this plant is beloved by collectors and those looking for something unique.
Origin
The Hoya multiflora originated in Southeast Asia, where it grows naturally as an epiphyte in forests with high humidity. The variegated 'Albo' variety is a breeding selection developed specifically for its beautiful, white leaf markings.
Characteristics
The leaves of the Hoya multiflora variegata 'Albo' are oblong, glossy and firm, with striking white to cream accents along the veins and leaf margins. The plant is best known for its unusual flowers: star-shaped clusters in soft shades of white and yellow that are slightly fragrant and sometimes appear several times a year. Compared to many other Hoya's, this species has a fairly rapid growth rate and richer blooms.
Care
Light
The Hoya multiflora variegata 'Albo' likes lots of bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially on the variegated parts, to prevent leaf burn.
Temperature
This plant feels best at temperatures between 18 and 26 °C. It can briefly tolerate slightly lower temperatures, but grows optimally in constant warmth.
Substrate
Use an aerated, well-draining substrate, such as a mix of fine tree bark and coconut fiber for moisture control.
Humidity
A humidity of 60% or higher is ideal. In drier environments, a humidifier or regular spraying helps keep the plant healthy.
Nutrition
During the growing season (spring and summer), you may give a diluted, balanced fertilizer for epiphytes or houseplants every four to six weeks.
Watering
Give demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature as soon as the top layer of the substrate has dried slightly. Make sure excess water can drain well to prevent root rot.
Flowering
The Hoya multiflora variegata 'Albo' can bloom several times a year, especially if it receives plenty of light and stable care. Always leave spent flower stems in place: new flowers often appear in the same places.
